I hear you are open. Is that true? Congratulations! It's so hard to come back from a disaster like that. What got you through it?

Dawn, this page needs an update on your big opening plans! I keep hearing rumors but I would like to know an "official" date. Congratulations on the speedy restoration - The Rock looks amazing.

Dawn, What a surge of emotion I've had today. I took a little break from my daily activities to try to find an eatery between Norman & Tulsa. I'll be visiting Norman and staying with a friend there but wanted to break bread with another friend who now resides in Tulsa (all of us met in Colorado Springs,CO). First I looked on mapquest and googled a couple of places and came upon Stroud and your Cafe and I got excited. Then I read about the fire and I was soooo disappointed. Then I came upon your blog that states you might be open by 5/22! Great excitement again. I'm planning the trip for Memorial Day weekend. Hoping to come to your restaurant on Sunday the 24th of May. How are things?

Reading this post made me think of a story the owners of the Burger Bar in Cleburne Texas told me a while back. After 50 or 60 years of use, they decided to clean up their grill. As I remember they had the top sand blasted and had a plumbing shop work on the gas part of it. They put it back in place along with some other updated equipment.

Customers complained the burgers didn't taste the same. I think it was just a temporary thing. I'm positive a few thousand burgers grilled put that problem to rest, and they still use the same old grill. It's funny how a piece of equipment like a grill can have so much effect over the food that comes out of a kitchen.

I'm very happy to hear that the Rock is returning. I'll be through there on my Harley in mid-July. SO looking forward to stopping in, paying my respects and dropping some cash in this Route 66 icon. Applause from a Rte 66 fan in California. See you in July!
